Kansas Lottery Goes Digital with New iLottery Platform

Key Takeaways:

  • Kansas Lottery launches iLottery platform powered by Pollard Banknote
  • Players can now buy Powerball and Mega Millions tickets online
  • Nine eInstant games available, with more to be added regularly

The Kansas Lottery has taken a significant step into the digital realm, unveiling its new iLottery platform developed by Pollard Banknote. This move marks a pivotal moment for lottery enthusiasts in the Sunflower State, who can now purchase tickets for popular draw-based games like Powerball and Mega Millions from the comfort of their homes.

The platform's initial offering includes nine eInstant games from Pollard's Digital Games Studio. Among these are 'Jayhawk Riches' and 'Wildcat Riches', specially customized to celebrate the rivalry between Kansas State University and the University of Kansas athletic programs. These digital offerings tie into the 'Rivalry Riches' instant ticket currently available in physical form across the state.

Pollard Banknote's co-CEO Doug Pollard expressed pride in the launch, stating, "We greatly appreciate the confidence the Kansas Lottery has shown in us by being the first client to launch Catalyst." He emphasized that this development represents the culmination of decades of experience in developing and operating iLottery systems in Europe and Canada.

The new platform isn't just about games. It also incorporates a comprehensive player account management system, handling crucial functions such as registration, age and identity verification, wallet transactions, and responsible gaming features. Geolocation services are provided through Pollard's proprietary GeoLocs technology.

Stephen Durrell, executive director at the Kansas Lottery, shared his enthusiasm: "We're thrilled with how our team at the Kansas Lottery and Pollard Banknote have worked together to achieve this historic milestone." He praised Pollard Banknote's guidance throughout the process, noting that despite the complexity of launching an iLottery program, the implementation went smoothly.

Looking ahead, the Kansas Lottery plans to expand its online offerings. Additional draw-based games will be introduced in the near future, and new eInstant games are scheduled to roll out every two weeks, ensuring a fresh and engaging experience for players.

This digital transition builds upon a long-standing partnership between the Kansas Lottery and Pollard Banknote. In 2017, the lottery adopted Pollard's proprietary loyalty solution for its PlayOn Loyalty Program. The collaboration continues with Pollard providing marketing support, creating and executing campaigns to drive player acquisition and retention.

The launch of this online platform represents a new chapter for the Kansas Lottery, bringing it in line with modern gaming trends and offering players more convenient access to their favorite lottery games. As the digital lottery landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how this move impacts player engagement and lottery revenues in Kansas.
